Smurfit Kappa Roermond Papier, a unit of Smurfit Kappa, has selected Voith to supply and install a new forming section and headbox for its paper machine 1 (PM 1) installed at its Roermond mill in The Netherlands.
Under the contract, Voith will be responsible for the supply of DuoFormer CBh shoe blade former without suction rolls as well as the MasterJet Pro G/B2 headbox with OnQ ModuleJet dilution water technology.
The scope of the supply includes assembly and commissioning of the new equipment for the PM1 machine.
In 2016, Voith has completed rebuild project for the PM1 machine with an aim to increase production. The work involved replacement of the press section, dryer section and size application unit.
Following the completion of the rebuild, the paper machine has been able to produce saleable paper after 12hrs and paper in A-grade quality after another 12hrs.
Voith said in a statement: “After just 10 months, the speed of 1,000 meters per minute, which is currently limited by the wire section, was reached for all products.
“Smurfit Kappa therefore decided to bring forward immediately the second expansion stage, consisting of the replacement of former, headbox and approach flow system.”
The company said that the new contract is expected to increase speed, reduce width widened to 5,080mm and the improved efficiency to run lower basis weights of 80 gm/m2 of the PM1.
