UK-based Johnson Matthey’s subsidiary StePac is exhibiting new packaging solutions at this year's Fruit Logistica event in Germany.
At the event, which is being held between 7 and 9 February in Berlin, the firm will exhibit Xgo preformed flexible packaging solutions for manual packing.
The preformed bags will help to enhance the shelf life of both whole and fresh cut fruits and vegetables.
StePac is offering different films with varying water vapor transmission rates, which helps to maintain optimal moisture for each type of produce being packed.
The company will also exhibit new Xgo standing pouches to offer enhanced shelf life in a convenient grab-n-go retail packaging format.
According to the firm, the standing pouch prevails shelf displays through instant product recognition, good film clarity and condensation control.
The company will also exhibit Xgo lidding film, which can be customized to use for a range of produce packed in either PET or PP trays.
In addition, the firm will showcase new re-sealable Xgo lidding film for products packed in PET trays.
StePac technical development manager Gary Ward said: "We're very excited to be presenting novel high clarity, aesthetically pleasing, modified atmosphere/modified humidity (MA/MH) films with easy seal properties suitable for flow packing fresh fruits and vegetables in retail packaging format.
“Both the MA and MH properties of the Xgo films are customized to the produce and the prevailing supply chain conditions and help preserve quality and freshness all the way from the pack house to the final consumer.”
