Packaging firm Sonoco announced its plan to exhibit newly expanded produce packaging capabilities line at the upcoming Produce Marketing Association (PMA) 2017 event in New Orleans, US.
The firm has expanded its packaging solutions offering for the growing produce market with the recent acquisitions of Peninsula Packaging and Clear Lam Packaging.
Clear Lam Packaging is engaged in manufacturing flexible and forming plastic packaging films while Peninsula Packaging is a manufacturer of thermoformed packaging for fresh fruit and vegetables.
Sonoco executive vice-president and COO Rob Tiede said: "The addition of Peninsula and Clear Lam to the Sonoco family greatly expands what we can bring to produce brands.
"Our material science expertise and packaging variety, combined with our focus on innovation, goes a long way toward helping us develop new packaging options for our customers that address the demands of today's busy, health-conscious consumers."
At the PMA event, Sonoco plans to showcase packaging solutions ranging from flexible pouches and peel-reseal lidding, to rigid plastic trays, tubs and hinged containers.
The company will also present its new SmartSeal peel-and-reseal lidded packaging for fresh produce.
Featuring patented precision-scored, easy-open and reclose functionality, the SmartSeal technology offers tamper evidence and high-impact graphics.
Sonoco provides a variety of consumer packaging, industrial products, protective packaging, and displays and packaging supply chain services. Employing 20,000 people, the firm has operations in 33 countries.
