Corrugated and paper-based packaging firm Smurfit Kappa has said that its MB12 carton is now available for primary packaging, which will prevent the migration of mineral oil from packaging into food products.
Eurofins, a provider of product testing services, has verified the efficiency of MB12, which is made using natural ingredients in recycled board.
Citing an independent study undertaken by the Technical University of Dresden, Smurfit Kappa said that its MB12 was the most effective product on the market for protecting packaged food against potential contamination.
Smurfit Kappa Paper Division VP Product Development Lars Henriksson said the company’s customers have a different set of requirements and it is committed to help them identify the correct primary packaging for their needs.

MB12, which is 100% recyclable, is available in a range of weights.
The carton, which protects against organoleptic effects of taste and odour into the food, which can be delivered as FSC chain-of-custody certified.
Smurfit Kappa’s products, which are 100% renewable and produced sustainably, enhance the environmental footprint of its customers.
The company’s Catcher Board MB12 reduces the migration of any organic substances by 99%, and has been tested for a shelf life of over 12 months.
Smurfit Kappa employs about 46,000 people in around 370 production sites across 35 countries.
