Smurfit Kappa is set to install Electronics For Imaging’s (EFI) Nozomi C18000 single-pass LED inkjet corrugated packaging press at one of its plants in Iberia.
The facility is engaged in the manufacturing of various boxes and trays, including ready-to-sell packaging with full-color imaging.
With high-end grayscale imaging capabilities, the Nozomi press offers speeds up to 246 linear feet (75 linear meters) per minute.
The press will help Smurfit Kappa to carry out short-run, medium-run and complex versioned jobs, which are costly to produce using analog post-print flexo or litho lam processes.

Smurfit Kappa already installed Nozomi C18000 at its facilities in Smurfit Kappa Spain, Portugal and Morocco.
The facility, which is currently installing Nozomi press, carries out six-color analog printing on single-channel B, C, E and double-channel B/C and C/E board.
The 71-inch wide Nozomi press can print six colors and white, as well as holds capacity to run same grades of single and double-channel board.
Nozomi press features an EFI Fiery NZ-1000 digital front end (DFE), which helps in accurate job processing.

The press also enables to avoid multiple challenges associated with digital corrugated board production, in addition to providing accurate brand color reproduction.
Nozomi C18000 is also provided with a fully integrated and programmable top- and bottom-feed system, which deals with media separation, lift, transport and alignment at full press speeds.
An in-line image quality inspection system on the press is said to compensate for inkjet nozzle, alignment and uniformity errors for better imaging quality.
