RFID on narrow web presses

A smart label research and demonstration centre has been opened by Mark Andy and Tamarack Products. Located at Tamarack’s facility in Wauconda, Illinois, it houses a Mark Andy Model 2200 press equipped with the Tamarack P500 RFID module to demonstrate RFID tag insertion in-line with complete label printing production.

Most smart labels are produced from standard labelstock, with an RFID transponder embedded between the facestock and the release liner. Uses include shipping/inventory control, baggage identification, item theft deterrence, parcel tracking, and document tracking.

“RFID promises to be a large part of the world’s future. Mark Andy is taking the necessary steps to be a leading solution provider,” states Ken Daming, director of product management.

Tamarack’s P500 RFID affixing module is said to integrate cleanly into Mark Andy presses, providing a cost effective, productive approach to smart label production. It affixes all transponder sizes at web speeds up to 500ft/min.
