Promise of preprint

Pre-Print Technology is a new company formed by David Sawford and Andrew Roylance, former employees of Cobden Chadwick and PCMC with 50 years’ experience in the development and manufacture of flexo printing equipment between them. When PCMC’s Pre-Print Division was disbanded, they purchased the intellectual property for both Chadwick and PCMC wide web pre-print and sack presses.

In May, 2004, Pre-Print Technology signed a collaboration agreement with Comexi aiming to develop a range of gearless/sleeve presses “that surpass the current offerings with regard to print quality, press efficiency, performance and reliability”.

Comexi’s new pre-print presses are said to be ideally suited to the corrugating market for a number of reasons. The CI section offers a full range of print repeats (variable) from 600-2,050mm. Production speeds are up to 400m/min. Full gearless technology to the CI section is said to give improved colour to colour registration – within 0.025mm, compared with within 0.20mm on a typical post print press.

Print quality on the Comexi presses is claimed to be “close to offset standards with 60/50 screen”. Lower material costs and ink consumption are also cited for preprint over post print, as well as reduced maintenance requirements. The first eight colour wide web press installation in Europe is scheduled for 2005.
