Optimized opaque white for rotary screen printing

Zeller+Gmelin has placed two newly formulated opaque white qualities for rotary screen printing on the market. With this development, the ink manufacturer from Eislingen has optimized its OPTISCREEN-series so that the new products SR-X55004 and SR-X55400 comply with all current requirements for raw materials used. Moreover, both products are silicone-free formulations, providing for preprinting with opaque white and overprinting with other colour shades as well as combining with print finishes such as hot foil stamping or printing in thermal transfer processes. The combination of rotary screen printing with other printing or finishing processes can often be found with sophisticated labels for product decoration.

OPTISCREEN SR-X55004 is an untinted opaque white (without colouring). Compared to the previous generation, the current opaque white allows for higher printing speeds of up to 60 m/min. The ink offers also at these printing speeds a safe curing and features good adhesion as well as high rub and scratch resistance on standard substrates. The variant OPTISCREEN SR-X55400 differs by an additional violet tinting. This ensures higher degrees of whiteness, with otherwise identical properties.

Both opaque white qualities are free of N-vinyl caprolactam (NVC). Thus, Zeller+Gmelin meets already today the EuPIA-requirements that come into force inOctober. In addition, the inks are universally applicable, that is, compatible with the popular screens of Stork, Screeny and Kocher+Beck. As an important product feature Zeller+Gmelin mentions opacity, allowing for opaque white areas already at comparatively low application weights. The rheological properties have also been improved providing for an even and smooth printed ink layer on the substrate while at the same time a sharp printing can be achieved. This reduces the risk of pinholes and allows the printing of fine writings even at high machine speeds.
