The organisers of a new awards competition being staged at next year's Interpack are urging “entrepreneurs” across the entire packaging industry - designers, developers or manufacturers - to enter for the chance to win one of five top “Gold” awards and to showcase their skills at a special display during the mammoth packaging show.
Being staged at what is widely regarded as the world’s number one packaging exhibition for the first time ever, the iF Packaging Awards are organised by International Forum Design (iF), the operating arm of Germany’s “Good Industrial Design” association, which was formally established in the 1960s. An independent jury will examine competing entries in eight different categories – sales packaging; display and transport packaging; packaging graphics; packaging materials; packaging machines and equipment: packaging design and functionality, cross-category and packaging concepts. iF says the winners will be chosen based on such important criteria as design quality, ergonomics, choice of materials and the degree of innovation.
For entries to be eligible none must be over three years old, while in the packaging concepts category, designs that have not yet gone into production or are only available in prototype can be submitted.
Each winner will receive the “coveted” iF seal of “outstanding design quality”, with a maximum of five, identified as the most noteworthy in overall design terms, also scooping a Gold or “design Oscar”. The Gold winners will be announced at an official ceremony on April 24 during Interpack, where they will each receive a golden iF sculpture. All prizewinning entries will also be showcased to exhibition visitors throughout the show as part of a special “exhibition within an exhibition”.
Registrations for the iF Packaging Award 2008 can be submitted online now at: www.ifdesign.de Closing date for entries is December 15, 2007.
