More into metallized film capacity

ExxonMobil Chemical is installing two new metallization lines at its OPP films plant in Brindisi, Italy. The first is due to start up in the first quarter of 2005, with the second line following a few months later. Details of the amounts invested, supplier names and capacity have not been revealed.

“The new metallizers will give us much more flexibility and responsiveness to growing market demand,” says Carlo Ranucci, general manager, ExxonMobil Chemical Films Europe. “Production from the two lines, together with that from our supply network across Europe and North America, will effectively ensure that supply of metallized films is capable of meeting customers’ expectations both today and in the future.”

ExxonMobil Chemical currently outsources its entire metallized film needs from a qualified network of toll metallizers. The new lines, capable of producing rolls up to 2.4m wide, will give it an internal supply to supplement and complement this network, to better meet increasing market demands.

Christian Candoni, product manager for metallized films, says the new lines will have the ability to metallize a range of gauges at high speeds, providing outstanding barrier properties. “These metallizers will increase our capacity,” he affirms. “We aim to reduce lead-times and fluctuations in supply and consistently offer our customers the highest quality metallized films.”
