Dongming Hengchang Petrochemical has selected Spheripol polypropylene (PP) technology from LyondellBasell for a 200KT per year plant in Heze City, Shandong Province, China.
Using newest catalyst technology, the Spheripol process enables the production of reactor-based product families with increased efficiency.
The resulting polypropylene grades are used to manufacture film for food storage, plastic pipes for drinking water and wastewater removal, and sterile syringes for healthcare industry.
LyondellBasell global manufacturing, refining, projects and technology executive vice president Dan Coombs said: “The Spheripol process is recognized globally as the benchmark in polypropylene process technology.
“It provides our customers with an elegant and economical method to efficiently and reliably produce a wide range of premium-quality polypropylene grades.”
The latest fifth generation Spheripol includes process improvements designed to further maximize operational efficiency.
The technology allows for the production of homopolymers, random copolymers and heterophasic impact and specialty impact copolymers, as well as terpolymers.
The PP products can be used for thin-walled, rigid packaging items that are light and strong, packaging containers to preserve food, and polypropylene pipes that safely transport water.
LyondellBasells’ other portfolio of licensed polyolefin technologies include Spherizone multi-zone circulating reactor, Hostalen low-pressure slurry process for the production of multi-modal HDPE, Lupotech, and Spherilene flexible gas-phase process technology for the production of LLDPE, MDPE and HDPE.
Recently, LyondellBasell has agreed to acquire US-based A. Schulman in a deal worth around $2.25bn.
Based in Akron, Ohio, A. Schulman supplies high-performance plastic compounds, composites and resins to its customers.
The acquisition will allow LyondellBasel to expand its plastics business, in addition to creating polymer solutions business with advanced technologies and diverse product portfolio.
