Amcor Flexibles has produced what is said to be the first contour laser perforated lidding material in Europe for Dutch biscuit manufacturer Bolletje. The new material is being used on three-compartment PP trays of Eindeloos finger biscuits. The laser perforation allows the compartments to be easily snapped apart without affecting the seal integrity of the lidding film, providing consumers with the convenience of smaller individual packs.
The seven colour reverse gravure printed laminate of PET with a special peelable PE seal layer for easy-open convenience, is extruded then printed at Amcor Flexibles Gent, Belgium, on a Cerutti press with in-line lamination. The film is contour laser perforated at Amcor Flexibles Schüpbach, in Switzerland, which is believed to have the most modern industrial contour laser machinery available.
Bolletje is said to be so confident that the Amcor solution will boost sales of its Eindeloos range, previously packaged in a flowpack, that it has built a new factory hall to house an additional packaging line.
Amcor Flexibles sales director Erwin Klunder comments: “Following the success of our contour laser perforated lidding material for biscuits, we are looking to extend into other market areas including, for example, snacks, where we see possibilities for party mixes in thermoformed trays.”
