Improved casein-free label adhesives

A new generation of casein-free adhesives from Henkel offers extended properties and a performance to ensure trouble-free production processes for glass bottle labelling.

The company’s Optal XP second generation of casein-free adhesives is said to have a broader and more comprehensive performance spectrum. Long-term tests have shown that, in addition to excellent wet tack, they exhibit good adhesion even to chilled glass surfaces.

The range covers the entire spectrum of bottle labelling needs, including high resistance to ice water and condensation water.

Because these adhesives are based on synthetic polymers, says Henkel, they are subject to lower price volatility than casein – and this then becomes available for food production instead of being processed for technical purposes.

Additional Optal products are being tested for labelling PET returnable packages and containers with the no-label look.
