Metal packaging specialist Impress has announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase Amcor Group’s Food Can and Aerosol Business in Australia and New Zealand for an undisclosed sum.
The transaction is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year subject to regulatory approvals.
The business to be purchased comprises seven facilities making steel food cans, easy-open and peelable ends and steel and aluminium aerosols. The main food markets served include ready meals, dairy and fruit and vegetables, while the plants produce aerosols for the cosmetics, air freshener and insecticide sectors. The business delivers to several blue-chip companies that are already Impress customers elsewhere, including Heinz, Nestlé, Reckitt Benckiser and Unilever. Australasia’s largest aerosol producer, and its second largest food can manufacturer, the operation being acquired has an annual turnover of approximately €150m.
“After our recent expansion into several new countries (in Eastern Europe, North America and North Africa) this is another major step in our strategy to extend our geographical coverage while staying focussed on our core metal packaging markets,” says Impress ceo Francis Labbé. “We feel very comfortable about this business as we know it well through a technical assistance agreement in place since 2002. It is a well-run operation, with good people and a strong reputation for quality and reliability.”
