Hombrechtikon Systems Engineering, a laboratory automation technology firm, has launched an integratable module that automatically, safely, and reliably seals qPCR tubes and plates.
The TubeSealer device can easily be integrated into almost any qPCR workflow and increase sealing reliability.
In addition to reducing the cross-contamination risk, the new technology provides flexible sealing of individual tubes and whole plates.
Hombrechtikon Systems Engineering CTO Konstantin Lutze said that the new TubeSealer offers the highest process safety in automated qPCR.
"This innovation is adaptable to a variety of tube formats, and offers many advantages over traditional manual or tape sealing approaches."
Additionally, the TubeSealer can be used as stand-alone unit in a manual workflow while the integrated version can be adapted to any data interface, including CAN, USB, or even wireless connections.
The communication protocol, which is Standardization in Lab Automation (SiLA) compliant, can be seamlessly integrated into complex workflows.
The company said the TubeSealer closes a PCR tube using a spherical bead. The beads are carefully applied from the bead container and forced into the opening of the tube by the controlled movement of a plunger.
A load check will be then be carried out by an integrated optical sensor for of all closed tubes.
By clipping in a new bead container, the beads can be loaded easily onto the system, the firm said.
