UK converting equipment engineers Henderson Engineering says a project to overcome temperature problems for a coater bound for Nigeria will lead to a new product range.
The company says 90gsm Tauro uncoated paper had to be dried at below 70C, wet coated to 16gsm and then dried to 8gsm, all by raising the temperature above the critical point.
Henderson designed a coater with airshafts to take three-inch cardboard cores and a drive gravure roller to apply the coating. Other design features included pneumatically actuated dancer, surface driven rewind and an option to slit the material at the unwind station. Henderson installed a Heraeus Noblelight infrared dryer with a pyrometer and built-in feedback system to measure and control the coating temperature. The coater runs at 10m per minute on a 1,000mm wide web.
