Faerch Plast UK, which designs and manufactures recycled plastic packaging for the food industry, has unveiled a 100% recycled PET material for its Food to Go product range.
From 1 January 2019, Faerch will offer a material which will be made from 100% recycled PET, reducing the need to use virgin materials.
The company has recently announced the acquisition of Dutch 4PET Group, a sheet manufacturer with unique recycling capabilities.
With this acquisition and the recycled PET material to be launched for the ‘Food to Go’ product range, Faerch is set to become an integrated recycler of post-consumer food trays.
Faerch Plast UK and Ireland sales director Mark Tollman said: “We see this as a great innovation for our customers and the environment, as we continue to develop sustainable packaging.
“This innovation is a further commitment to the UK Plastics Pact, which we are proud to be a founding member of.”
Faerch Plast’s plant at Ely in Cambridgeshire manufactures recycled plastic packaging for the UK and European markets.
The site extrudes its own sheet using materials sourced from the UK and has benefitted from a £20m investment program over the last two years.
All manufacturing facilities of Faerch are entirely powered by electricity generated from renewable sources and are part of Operation Clean Sweep, which ensures zero plastic pellet loss during transport and production to contribute to clean oceans.
To be delivered by WRAP, the UK Plastics Pact is a collaborative initiative that is aimed at creating a circular economy for plastics by bringing together the plastics packaging value chain behind a common vision and a set of targets.
The UK Plastics Pact is expected to promote the development of new business models to reduce the total amount of plastic packaging.
It is also expected to help build a stronger recycling system, where the industry takes responsibility for its own waste, and ensure plastic packaging can be effectively recycled and made into new products and packaging.
With the support of governments, the pact is expected to ensure consistent UK recycling is met.
Earlier this year, Faerch Plast completed the acquisition of France-based CGL Pack from PSB Industries for an undisclosed sum.
