Curtis Packaging invests in Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106 double coater press

US-based luxury packaging solutions provider, Curtis Packaging, is set to install Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106 10-color double coater press at its facility in Sandy Hook, Curtis.

The investment in the new 41-inch press, which will replace an existing Rapida 130 press at the facility, is help Curtis Packaging maximize it coating expertise.

The new press will also complement the two existing Koenig & Bauer Rapida 130 51-inch large format presses installed earlier at the facility.

Curtis Packaging operations vice president Kerry Brown said: “When our customers describe our company, the three words they use are: excellent quality, sustainability, and innovation.

“Our new Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106 will address all of those apt descriptions. It will be a key press for us, dedicated to short-run, fast changeover jobs.

“We have completely customized its capabilities with a unique double coater formation and other exclusive configurations. Once it begins operation this spring, we’re projecting a 60% improvement in makeready and a 40% improvement in run rates.”

For Curtis Packaging, the new Rapida 106 press will be equipped with Koenig & Bauer inline QualiTronic Color Control capability and System Brunner Instrument Flight print quality measuring system.

Brown added: “Having this 41-inch press specified in this unique configuration of a double coater lets us print in one pass rather than two.

“It makes us more efficient and more innovative. It distinguishes us from our competitors.”

Koenig said that the performance data of the new Rapida 106 press will be captured automatically for analysis while the Koenig & Bauer’s LogoTronic Professional will provide detailed reports on every activity taking place on the press.

Additional features of the press include Logotronic Cockpit, which provides detailed reports on the press’ OEE performance.
