Amcor PET Packaging says it will be able to bring its extensive PET manufacturing expertise to a wider range of products and sectors with the introduction of single-stage PET container manufacture to complement its existing two-stage process at its Gresford, UK factory.
It is already supplying single-stage produced PET bottles to GlaxoSmithKline’s oral care factory in Maidenhead for toothpastes and mouthwashes such as Aquafresh and Corsodyl shipped worldwide.
The converter has installed the latest injection blowmoulding machines that can produce 25ml-5l bottles and containers in numerous neck sizes. It says the machines’ “excellent efficiencies” and flexibility, combined with utilisation of the infrastructure of the existing PET manufacturing operation, will enable it to deliver real costs benefits to customers compared with most existing single-stage manufacturing.
George Hendry, UK sales director, says: “We believe our investment represents a step change in technology that will revolutionise the entire sector.”
