Complete Design & Packaging buys EFI Nozomi Single-Pass Inkjet corrugated press

US-based corrugated packaging provider Complete Design & Packaging (CDP) has purchased Electronics For Imaging’s (EFI) Nozomi C18000 press.

The six-color single-pass LED corrugated packaging press will be installed in the fourth quarter of 2017 and its commercial operations will commence by the end of the same year.

CDP will enhance customer service in retail corrugated packaging by using the press for cost-effective, high-quality, direct-to-board digital printing.

CDP, which works on multi-pass flatbed inkjet printer, delivers analog flexo and litho lamination corrugated printing for retail packaging applications.

CDP president and co-owner Howard Bertram said: "There are a lot of flexo and litho lamination options out there today, but customers face limitations in their marketing without digital printing, and as a young, independent company, we want to be on the leading edge of that offering.”

The 71-inch wide Nozomi C18000 press has the potential to print up to 246 linear feet a minute, which will reduce the production costs and enable manufacturers to work with fast turnaround times. The EFI Fiery NZ-1000 digital front end (DFE) platform provides color management tools.

The new single-pass press, which will be used by food and consumer product manufacturers, will produce high-impact, short- and medium-run regional- and demographic-focused designs.

The firm will also print full-color images on kraft liners and boards by equipping the press with new LED ink. The press will provide accuracy, versatility and recyclability.

CDP vice president and co-owner Scott Sumner said: "We chose EFI because of their strengths in R&D and their commitment to make things happen in the industry. In addition to the productivity that comes with single-pass printing on the Nozomi press, Fiery technology was definitely a selling point for us. We could see how EFI's legacy with digital print color management will be a big plus for us developing our digital packaging business."
