Clariant to exhibit moisture-control solutions for pharma packaging at CPhI 2017

Clariant is set to showcase new moisture-control solutions for pharmaceutical packaging at this year’s CPhI Worldwide event in Germany.

At the event, Clariant Healthcare Polymer Solutions will exhibit new solutions for controlling moisture in pharmaceutical packaging, while Clariant Masterbatches will showcase new anti-static masterbatches for pharmaceutical films.

Clariant Healthcare Packaging business produces controlled atmosphere packaging materials, which will allow to protect healthcare products from humidity and oxygen.

The firm will showcase expanded Equilibrium stabilizer products line and EQ-Pak products line at the event.

Other products to feature in the exhibition include EQ-CAN canisters, EQ-Stopper caps and EQ-Bag for bulk packages that contain empty capsules, powders and other moisture-sensitive product ingredients.

Clariant Masterbatches will launch a new amide/amine-free anti-static masterbatch concentrate called Mevopur Peam 176045, which can be used for polyethylene films used in pharmaceutical applications.

The new anti-stat, which will comply with the new USP regulation by 2020, is part of Mevopur brand of products for plastics applications in the medical and pharmaceutical industries.

Clariant innovation manager Valère Logel said: "While cold-form, foil-foil (aluminum-aluminum) blister packaging is considered the most moisture-protective packaging available, in fact, plastic containers such as bottles and tubes, when combined with desiccants, such as silica gel canisters and packets, will often provide lower internal relative humidity for long time periods.

“Because the water activity of the desiccant is generally lower than that of the drug product, the desiccant will actually draw moisture away from the solid-dosage form and preserve it even longer.”

The event will take place between 24 and 26 October 2017 in Frankfurt.
