Blown film systems aid Integra’s expansion

In the USA, demand for custom coextruded heavy-duty film applications has encouraged Integra Plastics of Madison, South Dakota, to purchase two high-output, three-layer blown film systems from Davis-Standard. They will occupy a new facility due for completion by the beginning of 2012, and will support Integra’s film and sheet processes for industrial and agricultural membrane applications.

One of the systems will produce film up to 2,500mm wide and 8mil thick using Davis-Standard’s new Vertex co-extrusion die and Triple Lip air ring technology. The Vertex die is engineered for tight gauge distribution and control while the Triple Lip is said to increase cooling capacity over traditional dual lip designs. This system will also include SLC-1000 (Sliding Lay-on Carriage) surface winders for winding larger rolls on cores up to 150mm.

The second system will produce gusseted tube films with a 7m circumference in a thickness of 10 mil and other widths of up to 40 mil. This machine will wind rolls of 1,200mm diameter on a Model 1580 winder. Both lines feature finished roll unloading, roll carts and shaft extractors to minimize operator involvement.
