Acquisition opens new label markets to Tamar

UK-based label converter Tamar Labels has acquired the assets of Irish self-adhesive label printing company Labelit for an undisclosed sum. Tamar, which serves similar UK-based markets to Labelit, expects the move will enable it to expand its current offering and open doors to new European markets such as the pet care sector.

Managing director Robert Lee explains: “Household expenditure on pet care has risen tremendously over the past five years, and in Eastern Europe household expenditure has grown by more than 60%. Therefore the European pet care sector, which is an industry sector worth an estimated €127 billion, represents a substantial growth opportunity for Tamar Labels.”

Equipment included in the Labelit deal includes three 8-colour Nilpeter UV flexo presses and a range of Omega finishing equipment and prepress systems. These now sit alongside the Edale narrow web flexo and HP Indigo digital label presses at Tamar’s BRC/IOP accredited production Gulworthy facility near Plymouth.

The Tamar workforce has risen to 36, with five new jobs at the plant, and annual turnover is expected to increase to €5 million in 2013.
