Whole Foods to switch to recycled paperboard deli boxes

Whole Foods Market’s Rocky Mountain Region is planning to switch to 100% recycled paperboard deli boxes with a coating made from 40% calcium carbonate.

The company is gearing up to launch two sizes of paperboard deli containers with a coating that replaces 100% polyethylene with one that combines PE and calcium carbonate, in a bid to reduce the use of plastics, according to greenerpackage.com.

The use of Smart Planet Technologies’ clear EarthCoating is an effort to reduce Whole Foods’ use of PE.

The Rocky Mountain Region, includes states of Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, New Mexico, and Utah and 28 stores.
