Unisource Global Solutions (UGS) a division of the US-based Unisource Worldwide has completed the asset acquisition of Pakit, a developer of molded fiber solutions for the packaging industry, for an undisclosed amount.
Unisource Worldwide CEO Al Dragone said the acquisition improves the company’s capability to be responsive to its customer needs in the sustainable packaging area.
"This acquisition builds upon our commitment to be a world leader in providing cutting-edge design, technology, research, manufacturing and ongoing innovation to the packaging industry," Dragone said.
According to UGS, the acquisition includes the purchase of equipment that uses cellulose fibers and less energy compared to current packaging processes and cuts down the use of water and emissions.
The cellulose fibers will be used to manufacture molded fiber packaging, replacing the use of plastic trays, bottles, containers, carriers and other conventional petroleum-based packaging.
UGS president Gary Miller commenting on the acquisition said: "The molded fiber manufacturing equipment we have acquired will expand UGS’ production resources to drive the next generation of packaging solutions to meet the industry’s growing interest in sustainable packaging on a global basis."
UGS provides packaging design/engineering solutions with emphasis on renewable materials that deliver good results for its customers.
