Tags and Labels Manufacturers (TLMI) has released a white paper on recycling protocols of PET thermoformed containers and related issues.

According to the body, the move is aimed at keeping its members informed about recycling adhesive adhesive formulations and new breakthroughs in the area.

The matter has been under deliberation in Canada, while it is now largely being pursued in the US, said the firm.

TLMI president Frank Sablone said retailers are looking forward to setting up systems and protocols that address thermoformed containers’ recyclability issues, saying the waste stream is being contaminated by tiny adhesive components that cannot be removed.

"As a member-driven association, it’s imperative that we inform our membership of issues as they arise and the recycle friendly adhesive formulations and compounds task force has been diligent in keeping the association informed of new developments in this area. Their dedication and hard work remains a true asset to the association, and to our greater membership." added Sablone.
