North American packaging recycler Sonoco Recycling has invested $2m to upgrade its Onslow County, North Carolina materials recovery facility (MRF) in the US. The facility will now process higher volume of recyclables.
Onslow County solid waste director Scott Bost said it is one of the premier coastal counties of North Carolina.
"Sonoco Recycling’s expertise and many years of experience in the recycling industry will continue to move the County forward with efficient and sustainable waste management for Onslow County," Bost said.
According to Sonoco, Onslow community has been progressive in the areas of sustainability and recycling and the company aims to provide them with expanded recycling capabilities and help the county continue to move forward in these areas.
Annually Sonoco Recycling, a unit of Sonoco collects more than three million tons of old corrugated containers, various grades of paper, metals and plastics.
The company currently operates six MRFs and provides recycling programs which identify waste reduction opportunities that minimize operating expenses for many of the consumer product companies in the US.
