New HDPE grade unveiled by SABIC Dutch arm

Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) has introduced a new plastic grade aimed at bottles made on high-speed extrusion blow-molding lines, for packaging ultra-high temperature and sterilized milk.

A favorable melt-flow rate of the material and a broad molecular weight distribution ensure good performance during extrusion and blowing, deeming it suitable for single- and multi-layer constructions.

The new HDPE B5260ULS grade would be helpful when using in-bottle sterilization as it has the properties required by convertors to run on equipment typically used for UHT, as the product and packaging are subjected to tough thermal and mechanical conditions, the firm said.

SABIC claimed that the HDPE possesses superior organoleptic properties, meaning there is minimal effect of packaging taste and odor on the contents, particularly when using in-bottle sterilization.

SABIC HDPE product sales manager Gilles Mignard said HDPE B5260ULS can be colored on blow molding machine or on compunding equipment that is suitable.
