US-based Nestlé Waters North America is considering to build a $30m bottle-to-bottle PET recycling plant that will produce 40 million pounds of recycled PET annually.
The plant once fully operational, will supply 10% of the company’s current total PET resin needs of 440 million pounds a year.
Nestlé and its planned joint venture partner are reviewing details of the project, which is expected to be located in the East Coast of the US.
The company’s existing bottling plant in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania, manufactures the firm’s Deer Park-brand water bottles from 50% recycled PET.
Nestlé Waters North America CEO and president Kim Jeffery said the price of recycled PET is 20% more than new bottles, because currently only 30% of PET bottles are recycled.
