MedPlast has acquired Orthoplastics, the UK-based manufacturer of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) products and components.
Orthoplastics is a major supplier of UHMWPE products to the strictly regulated orthopedic implant market. The company also produces implantable orthopedic components to customer specifications.
MedPlast CEO Harold Faig said the acquisition would help MedPlast increase business in the medical device assembly and implantables markets.
"The combination of MedPlast and Orthoplastics represents tremendous opportunities for both firms and for our customers," added Faig.
MedPlast sales and marketing executive vice president Matt Langton said, "Orthoplastics becomes a key part of our strategy to deliver comprehensive processing technologies to the global medical device market."
MedPlast provides technical support in injection molding, medical blow molding, silicone extrusion, compression and transfer molding, liquid injection molding, two-shot molding, over molding, insert molding, multi-component molding, as well as precision mold making.
Orthoplastics managing director David Brooks said, "This acquisition allows MedPlast to combine its technical capabilities with Orthoplastics’ implantable technologies to become a significant player in the implantable market."
The technical capabilities of Orthoplastics comprise direct compression molding, ram extrusion, annealing, machining and finishing, inspection and laboratory testing.
