Maple Leaf introduces vacuum skin packaging for duck products

North American producer of duck products Maple Leaf Farms has introduced vacuum skin packaging for all retail raw duck breast and duck leg products.

Said to be a culmination of a three-year research and development effort, the packaging offers various benefits to consumers and retailers.

Maple Leaf Farms director of duck marketing Cindy Turk said the packaging provides a means for consumers to analyze the entire product.

"This packaging change has been the catalyst for additional product enhancement," Turk added.

The new packaging technology offers benefits including a clear view of the entire product enabling consumers to inspect quality and size and ‘easy peel’ corner for convenient package opening.

According to the company, the packaging also provides cooking instructions under the flip up label and has reduced packaging materials by 17%.

The packaging is said to create an appealing presence for retailers, on the shelf and offers multiple display options.

For multiple display possibilities, the products can be displayed upright in customized trays or on a pegboard.
