Thailand-based producer of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), Indorama Ventures (IVL) will expand its purified terephthalic acid (PTA) at Indorama Holdings Rotterdam (IRHR) in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
IVL said the 250,000 metric tonne per year expansion at IRHR will be complete in 2014. The expansion will increase the plan’s total capacity to 600,000 metric tonnes per year and IVL’s total PTA capacity in Europe to 792,000 metric tonnes per year.
The company’s second PTA plant at Ottana, Italy, has a capacity of 192,000 metric tonnes per year.
Indorama Polymers Rotterdam will add a 190,000 metric tonne per year PET resin line in the first quarter of 2012, raising capacity to 390,000 metric tonnes per year.
The company is also considering a 1.3 million metric tonne per year plant investment in the Middle East and a 800,000 metric tonne per year plant in India in the second half of 2011.
IVL’s subsidiary Indorama Polymers (IRP) is also building a plant to produce 75,000 metric tonnes per year of PET in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. The plant will begin production in the fourth quarter of 2011.
