UK-based International Food Partners (IFP) has unveiled a new sealing technology for flexible packaging that will reportedly save food manufacturers thousands of tonnes of film per year. It is also expected to provide greater seal integrity.
Integrity Seal is an impulse heating technology which uses a novel means of applying heat to the packaging film, combined with a non heated, cutter in the front jaw.
Integrity Seal is a retro fit system for use on vertical form fill seal and horizontal flow wrap machines. Integrity Seal uses new generation weld technology to produce narrow bead seals that are 1mm wide compared with conventional crimp seals which are typically 15mm wide.
This narrow seal typically saves 10% in the length of the pack, delivering substantial film savings.
Other benefits of the Integrity Seal system include improved operational efficiencies and lower manufacturing costs.
Frozen food company, McCain Foods, is the first firm to use this new sealing technology on all its filling machines in its three main factories in the UK.
