India-based can manufacturer Hindustan Tin Works is looking to rope in all major can makers and brand owners from across the world for a campaign aimed at spreading the significance of can recycling.
The proposed Canvironment campaign aims to drive home the message that cans are 100% recyclable and are being used as packaging material for a host of daily use products from milk, soft drinks, beer, shoe polish and so on. Cans are highly eco-friendly and infinitely recyclable, with no loss of quality and thus, their use makes economic sense as well. They are the most sustainable package of the future.
Hindustan Tin Works senior VP Atit Bhatia said that the company resolves to build a strong and united global force which will lay the foundation to create Canvironment-friendly environment.
As per the campaign, recycling of one tonne of steel from cans saves 1.5 tonnes of iron ore half a tonne of coking coal, 1.3 tonnes of mining waste and a whopping 1,800kg of CO2 emissions.
