Global supplier of integrated packaging solutions Esko has announced that it will integrate the online editing technology of the Belgian developer CHILI Publish into its WebCenter web-based packaging platform.
A new plug-in for Adobe Illustrator will also be developed by Esko, enabling users to open packaging designs in WebCenter to create, edit and modify the packaging content. The integration will also allow a designer or artwork creator to publish an Adobe Illustrator document to a WebCenter project.
The brand owner can visit online, open and edit the document using the CHILI Editor within the WebCenter browser window and provide content such as barcodes, nutrition facts and regulatory compliance data.
Esko product manager interactive applications Bjorn Willems said there is a trend in the packaging industry for prepress companies to move up in the supply chain toward packaging artwork design and creation.
"This further complements our portfolio of WebCenter applications that manage the approval, collaboration, project management and planning for the packaging life cycle," Willems said.
According to Esko, the new online packaging editing functionality will be available through Esko channels by the end of 2012.
