The European Federation of Bottled Waters (EFBW) has released a 134-page draft guide that helps to supply hygienic packaged water to promote the industry image better, in addition to providing guidance for the new member states.
The guide covers Quality & Food Safety Management, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points and several bioterrorism aspects, and was developed by quality managers from Danone, Nestlé Waters, Coca-Cola, AG Barr and Spadel, reported beveragedaily.com.
EFBW earlier stated that the new code of practice aimed for enhanced food safety and hygiene standards, increased credibility and a better industry image, and served as a useful guidance for new EU members.
Earlier in May, EFBW secretary general Patricia Fosselard explained about the provisions of the guide and a presentation that included a Coca-Cola representative by her side.
EU member states would also take up the draft along with their national enforcement authorities in combination with few current documents into account.
A revision to CODEX standards for packaged waters apart from natural mineral waters, and EC regulations 178/2002 and 852/2004 are under consideration.
