US-based Aqua Based Technologies has introduced a new, eco-friendly water-based coating Aqualene 5050, which has oil and grease resistance (OGR) for the paper converting, food packaging and food service industries.
The new economical and repulpable coating has been designed for use with paper, board and new starch-based food packaging substrates such as PLA requiring resistance to oil and grease.
The substrates include food wrappers and bags, paper and paperboard packaging, microwave packaging, frozen food containers, paper plates, boxes and cups.
According to the company, Aqualene 5050 complies with FDA requirements for direct food contact packaging. It dries clear, and is flexible and non-yellowing making it suitable for various end-use applications.
Aqualene 5050, which requires very light application levels to achieve desired properties, is VOC-free and does not contain any ozone depleting ingredients, making it environmentally safe.
Available in pails, drums and totes, the coating is said to be a high-performance product which is applied by conventional coating apparatus – gravure, flexo and rod, roll-coater.
Aqua Based Technologies, a division of ADM Tronics, develops and manufacturers water-based, non-toxic, eco-friendly, chemical formulations.
