Cork manufacturer Amorim and glass company Owens-Illinois (O-I) have announced the European launch of a new cork-glass wine packaging solution HELIX for the wine segment.
O-I European president Erik Bouts said the future of innovation is through partnership.
"Helix is a proven example of what can be achieved for consumers and the wine trade when the world’s leading companies in glass packaging and cork work together," Bouts said.
The new ‘twist to open’ concept combines a stopper, which is made from cork and a glass bottle with an internal thread finish in the neck.
HELIX, which combines all the advantages such as quality and sustainability with re-sealable convenience of cork and glass, can be implemented by wineries by making a minor adjustment to the existing filling lines.
The companies conducted an extensive testing and found that wine packaged in HELIX glass bottles with cork stoppers retained its taste, aroma and color.
