Amcor Rigid Plastics has supplied 200ml barrier polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles to spirit company in the US Beam for the launch of its Skinnyminis, a four-pack offering of the Skinnygirl Margarita ready-to-serve cocktail.
The new lightweight, break-resistant premium PET containers are said to deliver convenience and portability and represent one of the first 200ml barrier PET bottles for the spirits industry.
Designed to withstand high top load impact, the slender, long neck containers have a barrier PET resin with an oxygen scavenger that offers protection from oxygen ingress and provide extended shelf life, resulting in bottle inventory benefits.
In order to protect the product from ultraviolet light and preserve its color, a UV additive is used for the 200ml PET bottles.
The bottles come with a roll on, pilfer-proof (ROPP) premium aluminum screw top closure provided by Amcor Flexible Capsules.
Amcor, which continues to work with other wine and spirits makers seeking alternative packaging, is targeting PET barrier technology at other markets for oxygen sensitive products.
