Zimmer Releases Patient Specific Instruments

Zimmer, a provider of orthopedic medical devices, has released Patient Specific Instruments (PSI) at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) annual meeting in New Orleans.

Zimmer PSI utilize MRI technology and pre-operative planning tools to create customized cutting guides that are tailored to each patient’s anatomy. Zimmer PSI may be used in minimally-invasive procedures.

Zimmer PSI are designed to ensure accurate placement of the knee implant and are compatible with the Zimmer NexGen complete knee solution and the Gender solutions natural knee flex systems. Zimmer PSI streamline the surgical procedure, eliminating several steps in the total knee replacement procedure and potentially increase efficiency in the operating room. The knee implant procedures utilizing Zimmer PSI were recently completed and the products are available to surgeons across the country.

Jeff McCaulley, president of Zimmer Reconstructive, said: “Zimmer Patient Specific Instruments can assist in expediting the total knee replacement procedure for both surgeons and patients. We’re excited to make these instruments available to surgeons and anticipate that PSI will become a key addition to our existing portfolio of leading technologies.”

Headquartered in Warsaw, Indiana, Zimmer designs, develops, manufactures and markets orthopaedic reconstructive, spinal and trauma devices, dental implants and related surgical products.
