UK-based Proton Partners International has received a contract to develop and operate proton beam therapy centre in the UAE.
Claimed to be the first facility of this type in the country, the company will develop the Abu Dhabi Proton Centre (ADPC) along with SBK Holding and Albans Partners General Trading.
Proton therapy is said to be the most advanced and targeted cancer radiotherapy treatment due to its enhanced dose distribution and less side effects.
According to the firm, protons deposit the majority of their effective energy within a precisely controlled range, directly within the tumor, leaving healthy surrounding tissue.
Proton Partners International CEO Mike Moran said: "Proton Partners International is the UK’s leading developer of Proton Beam Therapy facilities having recently announced the development of three centres across the UK.
"We work with world leading technology partners such as Philips, IBA, ORCA and MEI Healthcare and I am thrilled that they will also support us in the development of the ADPC."
