Surface Solutions Group (SSG) is set to showcase its medical device coating solutions at Medical Design & Manufacturing Conference & Expo (MD&M) in the US.
The company will exhibit its FluoroBond-PT process and other coating solutions at the event, which will take place in Minneapolis from 21 to 22 September.
FluoroBond-PT solutions have been developed to solve polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) problems of Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA-free) coatings in the medical device industry.
FluoroBond-PT is an environmentally friendly treatment process for stainless steel, nitinol, and other metals.
It solves the PTFE coating delamination issues experienced in catheterization labs, operating rooms, and doctor’s offices.
FluoroBond-PT will be used to hyper clean the substrate, as well as remove free iron and iron oxides from the surface of the substrate without removing material or changing the dimension of the substrate’s surface.
SSG president George Osterhout said: “The medical device industry has been experiencing PFOA-free PTFE delamination, primarily on stainless steel guide wires and similar products.
“The PFOA-free coatings are sensitive to saline, which degrades the hydrophobicity of PTFE, making them vulnerable to electro/chemical attack.”
“There has been no delamination in the field on guide wires that were coated with SSG’s unique FluoroBond-PT process.”
SSG is engaged in the development of novel coating solutions for the medical device industry.
