Quick-Med wins new patents for NIMBUS antimicrobial technology

The Australian Patent Office and the patent office of Mexico, Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial, have granted new patents to Quick-Med Technologies' polyurethane-modified polycation, a new product of the NIMBUS technology family of antimicrobials.

By modifying the physical state of the polyurethane polycation, the strength of the antimicrobial, the breathability of the film or coating and its flexibility or rigidity can be altered.

In addition, the State Intellectual Property of the People’s Republic of China has issued a ‘Notification to Grant an Invention Patent’ for the pending patent in China.

The company said the three new patents are similar to US Patent No. 8,088,400, entitled ‘Disinfectant with Quaternary Ammonium Polymer and Copolymers’.

Quick-Med research & development vice president William Toreki said, "Our new polyurethane polycation is well suited for a wide range of applications including films and coatings, adhesives, catheters and other types of extruded tubing, and as a durable hand sanitizer."
