PositiveID develops temperature sensing microchip

PositiveID, in collaboration with RFID Solutions, has developed a temperature sensing microchip for use in humans.

The microchip, which uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, can measure internal temperature within the body and send the result wirelessly to an external reader.

PositiveID is planning to integrate the microchip to its Wireless Body platform, which allows the healthcare systems to communicate with each other and provide solutions to patients seamlessly.

PositiveID CEO Scott Silverman said when a person spikes a fever, it is a signal that their body is fighting an infection.

"By being able to continuously monitor temperature, it could provide an early warning to a caregiver at the onset of an illness," Silverman said.
