Podimetrics’ remote temperature monitoring system has showed a significant effect in a diabetic foot ulcers study.
The study results showed that the Podimetrics SmartMat detected more than 97% of developing nontraumatic plantar foot ulcers on average five weeks before they presented clinically.
Podimetrics’ remote temperature monitoring system includes a wireless SmartMat for the home and monitoring service that advises patients and clinicians when signs of inflammation are being developed.
The 34-week and multi-center study assessed Podimetrics remote temperature monitoring system in 129 participants with diabetes and prior DFU.
The primary outcome of the study was development of nontraumatic plantar DFU, while primary efficacy analysis was the accuracy of the Podimetrics SmartMat to predict the occurrence of DFU over several temperature asymmetry thresholds.
A patient has to be used the system through standing on the mat for 20 seconds per day at home.
The data will be shipped to the cloud, where the Podimetrics system will automatically measure the temperature difference between the feet at various locations looking for a possible persistent asymmetry or hotspot.
The healthcare provider will be notified based on their custom protocol, if a developing hotspot is detected.
