Medtronic has entered into a definitive agreement to take over surgical incision technology company PEAK Surgical.
The total value of the transaction is $120m.
Medtronic had previously invested in PEAK Surgical and holds an ownership stake in the company.
Hence, the transaction value comes to approximately $105m.
PEAK Surgical develops the PEAK PlasmaBlade, a new tissue dissection device used in radiofrequency surgical technologies used in ear, nose and throat (ENT), plastic reconstructive, orthopaedic and general surgical applications.
The PlasmaBlade offers the exacting control of a scalpel and the bleeding control of traditional electrosurgery without extensive collateral damage.
The surgical device comes together with the PULSAR Generator, which supplies pulsed plasma radiofrequency energy to the PlasmaBlades, to form the PEAK Surgery system.
Medtronic Restorative Therapies executive vice president and president Chris Connell said PEAK’s technologies complement their existing surgical product line, strengthens offerings and enables to offer surgeons and patients a full spectrum of products.
