Medina Medical receives CE mark approval for Embolization Framing Coil

US-based Medina Medical has obtained CE mark approval for its Embolization Framing Coil to commercially distribute in the European Union.

The Medina Embolization Framing Coil has been developed to treat brain aneurysms, using minimally-invasive techniques.

Medina Medical president and co-founder Maria Aboytes said the company is able to bring technology to a broader group of patients.

"Seeing our technology play even a small part in the treatment of cerebral aneurysms, and knowing that we touched patients’ lives is what drives us," Aboytes added.

Medina noted that the coil can be delivered like other embolization coils through a micro-catheter, which has been threaded through blood vessels into the aneurysm.

The coil has been designed to occupy space efficiently within an aneurysm, said Medina.

Medina Medical CEO Erik Engelson said: "This is such an important milestone for the company. I am honored to be part of the success of this great organization."

The company develops devices for the treatment of vascular abnormalities, including cerebral aneurysms.
