Iridex initiates EndoProbe device shipment in Japan

Iridex, a developer, manufacturer, and marketer of versatile laser-based medical systems and delivery devices, has received Japanese approval for its extended family of EndoProbe laser delivery devices, which are distributed in Japan through their partner, Tomey.

The EndoProbe is an intraocular laser delivery device used during vitreoretinal surgery for the treatment of multiple disorders including diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments and vitreous hemorrhage.

Iridex president and chief executive officer Theodore Boutacoff said that this approval represents another step in their global strategy of growing their disposable instrumentation product revenues and Tomey has been a partner in selling their ophthalmic laser systems and delivery devices into the Japanese market.

Iridex International Sales and Business Development SVP Eduardo Arias said that the probes being introduced may be used with the current installed base of Iridex laser systems in Japan and the EndoProbe product family includes single-use laser delivery devices with standard, shaped and specialised designs to complement each surgeon’s personal technique.
