Essential Medical’s new vascular closure device obtains CE mark approval

Medical device firm Essential Medical has obtained CE mark approval for its new vascular closure device, X-Seal.

The device has been developed to close femoral arterial punctures made during cardiac catheterization procedures such as angiograms, angioplasty, and stenting.

Essential Medical co-founder Gary Roubin said: "X-Seal represents a truly ‘next-generation’ closure device, offering excellent sealing, angiographic marking, and controlled deployment."

The company noted that the new device holds better handling and closure features, and offers improved hemostasis.

Essential is also developing a Manta, a large bore device for sealing bigger femoral arterial punctures made during transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV), and the endovascular treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA).

Essential Medical CEO Greg Walters said: "We expect our large bore device will provide a closure solution that will improve patient outcomes and reduce the overall cost of the respective procedures with an easy to use product."

Established in 2010, the company develops and commercializes vascular closure devices for femoral punctures after diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures.
