Cook adds guiding stylet to Cervical Ripening Balloon

Cook Medical, a provider of women health services, has added a guiding stylet to its Cervical Ripening Balloon.

The addition of stylet facilitates obstetricians to position the Cervical Ripening Balloon exactly where it needs and helps to induce labor when conditions are unfavorable.

Cook said the balloon is inserted approximately 12 hours before a planned induction to stimulate natural dilation of the cervix and helps the cervix to get ripened, thus providing a method alternative to pharmaceuticals and their risk of potential side effects.

Cook Women’s Health division vice president and global leader Christina Anne said they try to do everything they can to make the delivery process as safe and easy as possible for both the patient and the physician.

"This product addition will help the physician place the balloon accurately," Anne said.
